Fairfax Coaching Staff
Tanner Sewell enters his third season at the helm of the Fairfax wrestling program. He is also a special education English teacher at Fairfax High School. Sewell’s career dual record is 11-16. In the course of 2 seasons, Sewell has produced 50 wrestlers with a GPA of 3.5 or higher, 15 all-conference wrestlers, and 1 all-region wrestler.
Prior to Fairfax, Sewell served as an assistant coach at James Madison High School for two seasons where he assisted in the production of 7 conference champions, 2 regional finalists, and 4 state place winners. From 2011-2012, Sewell was an assistant coach at Edison High School.
A native of Wilmington, NC, Sewell is a member of the E.A. Laney High School Athletic Hall of Fame for his high school wrestling career. He earned a B.A. in psychology with minors in writing and philosophy from the Virginia Military Institute where he was a member of the wrestling and football teams. He earned a M.A. in philosophy from George Mason University in 2012. Sewell was named the 2015 Fellowship of Christian Athletes Northern Virginia coach of the year.
